Teach Me How To Dab!

on

One of the less common product types of cannabis products are called dab syringes. Their shape bears an eerie resemblance to actual medical syringes, but don’t worry. These syringes aren’t sharp enough to break the skin and are by no means intended to be injected. Once you can get past their strange shape, you might find yourself with a ton of questions. How does one use a dab syringe? What are the practical purposes of these odd devices? Will it get me high faster than regular cannabinoid-enhanced edibles? Are they better than inhalables? Slow down, young grasshopper! We’ll answer all these questions and more in the following paragraphs. In order to appreciate what these dab syringes are, lets first talk about the art of dabbing and what you’ll need to start using this fascinating product type!

Dabbing, Explained.

Not to be confused with the highly entertaining dance pose that dominates social media, dabbing is the art of using a dab syringe. Small plastic syringes are filled with a highly concentrated and extremely viscous oil. The oil is then “dabbed” onto (or into) various products to allow you to more easily consume it. Since the oil in dab syringes are extremely sticky, you’ll have to use some form of heat to get the sticky oil onto whatever you’re consuming. You can use something as simple as a blowdryer to warm the oil up; for our pyromaniacs, you can use an open flame or other forms of extreme heat to get the oil soft enough to pass through the syringe tip. However you choose to heat up the oil in the plastic syringe, be sure to use common sense and practical reasoning to avoid any unwanted mishaps.

What’s In A Dab?

The oil in dabs is extremely thick and does not come out easily. This oil contains either THC or CBD and is used to enhance a variety of products (more on that shortly). THC is the more common option as it can be used in varying doses by the user to create a stronger high. The CBD options are more beneficial for those who wish to increase their overall CBD intake. The oil is usually flavorless and odorless. Using a dab can be somewhat messy and is difficult to wash off, even after vigorous scrubbing. You may want to consider wearing gloves to prevent a lengthy cleanup, particularly for first-time or inexperienced users.

Some Uses for Dab Syringes

Dabbing isn’t as readily available as edibles and inhalables are, but there are many benefits to using dab syringes that outweigh the more familiar forms. One such benefit is naturally enhancing your traditional joints and pre-rolls. If you’re looking for an extra kick to whatever you’re smoking, dabs can offer a noticeable oomph with a very small amount. The drawback is that your joint or pre-roll will get soggy, sticky, and won’t last as long.

Another method for using dabs is with food. If you’re not quite ready to take the plunge into full-fledged edibles, you can start off with a small dab (pun intended) onto your homemade treats, swirl it , drip onto salads…the possibilities are quite literally endless! The drawback to this method is that the bioavailability goes down and won’t hit as hard as if you were to use the dab on smokeable products. As with any edible, the time it takes for the effects to kick in will also be considerably longer.

If drinkables are more your thing, CBD dabs are fantastic for beverages. For example, if coffee and energy drinks tend to make you jittery and uneasy, using a CBD dab can help to balance your body’s reaction to the caffeine. Another great way to enjoy dabs with liquid products is to add some to your favorite alcoholic beverage. Adding a small amount of the dab syringe’s contents will not only lower your alcohol tolerance, but will also help to speed up the effects of the alcohol, thus making you get drunk faster. Whether it’s foamy beers or hard liquor, the CBD in the dab syringes will enhance your overall drinking experience.

The final method for using dab syringes is identical to tinctures and other sublingual options: by placing it under your tongue. The cannabinoid (either THC or CBD) will enter your bloodstream faster than if you were to simply consume it with food or drink. Keep in mind that since dab syringes can be messy to use, you might need a bit of practice before perfecting this method.

Is Dabbing Right For Me?

Dabbing has a bit more of a learning curve, but is definitely an art form that can be quite rewarding with patience and persistence. If you’re wanting to enhance your current cannabinoid consumption with a small increase in your initial dosage, then dab syringes are a great way to go! Dab syringes are a fantastic inclusion in both food and drink, as the contents (CBD or THC) are safe for oral consumption. However, if you’re seeing these products for the first time and feel intimidated by them, you might want to get more familiar with other forms like gummies and inhalables first.
